Congratulations to the GeoWall team who placed 1st at the ASCE Geo-Institute 2013 National GeoChallenge down in San Diego this Monday, March 4th! This has been the second straight year that Cal Poly Pomona’s GeoWall team has taken home the prestigious Atterberg Cup trophy at Nationals, and they hope to keep the tradition alive in upcoming years. Please come out to root the team on as they compete again at PSWC 2013 at USC, where they hope to hold their top standing. Way to go GeoWall team!
Next Monday, March 4th, the GeoWall team will be competing to defend their 1st place title in the ASCE Geo-Institute Conference down in San Diego. The team is going into the competition placing 1st in the technical paper. Wish the team luck as they represent Cal Poly Pomona at Nationals! Go Broncos!
We’d like to congratulate Cal Poly Pomona’s team for their astounding performance during the national competition for the MSE Wall Design. This is a great accomplishment to be added to the multiple successes the civil engineering students at Cal Poly Pomona have had throughout the years. Thanks again to those who devoted countless hours to this project!
A slow moving landslide in San Pedro has finally given way over the weekend. The slide occurred near the coast line and has taken out a 900 foot section of road. No injuries.

For the first “Dirt and Rocks for Lunch” meeting of the new year we will host Gerald “Jerry” Diaz from Diaz-Yourman. Mr. Diaz will speak on mobile arctic oil drilling structures and seabed foundation investigations. He will will also discuss the strengthening of the seabed through deep soil mixing.
It promises to be an exciting talk, As always, CalGeo will provide delicious food for those in attendance. Be sure you don’t miss out!
